The world drinks a lot of coffee. (Up to 400 million cups of coffee a day in the United States alone.) While coffee grounds can be composted, an estimated six million tonnes of ground coffee waste goes to landfills every year. Once it’s there, it creates methane, a harmful greenhouse gas that causes global warming.
Instead of letting all these used coffee grounds go into the trash, UpCircle Beauty decided to do something about it. The innovative company collects used coffee grounds from cafes and upcycles them into products that nourish your skin. Genius, right? Take the Coffee Face Scrub, for instance: The antioxidant-packed Arabica coffee works as a natural exfoliator and has plenty of skin-boosting ingredients.
When you massage coffee grounds into your skin, they gently remove dirt and excess oil that can lead to breakouts. Derms also recommend coffee-based products due to the caffeine, which stimulates blood flow. This combats puffiness and gives your skin a tighter, more awake, and more youthful appearance.
We have three coffee-based products up for grabs in our September Product Drop (open from September 6th to the 12th). While the Coffee Scrub is great for exfoliating, the Eye Cream reduces undereye puffiness to help you look more awake, and the Serum brightens, boosts collagen, and fades dark spots. Better yet, they’re all super affordable at $16, $20, and $20, respectively.
Once you’re done with the product, simply recycle it. Both the aluminum tubes and glass bottles can be recycled normally. Clean skincare that’s great for your skin and great for the planet? Yeah, we’re sold. And we think you will be, too.
