How to Apply Concealer, According to Selena Gomez's Makeup Artist
Selena Gomez's makeup artist Melissa Murdick shares how to apply concealer like a pro, common mistakes, and eco-friendly concealers to try.
In the world of TikTok, makeup tricks and trends own the algorithm. From glazed donut skin to water-blended foundation, the platform (and those who love it) favor experimentation, which can lead to some seriously cool looks.
But, as Selena Gomez's makeup artist Melissa Murdick notes, learning to apply makeup via social can also result in application faux pas.
"Ya’ll, stop doing your concealer like this,” she pleads in a recent TikTok of her own. The MUA is a referring to an under-eye coverage trend that centers on a generous daub of concealer winged from the outer corner of the eye, along with an additional swipe beneath the inner corner.
Aside from an overload of product (primed for settling into any and all fine lines), Murdick notes that blending outward from the eye visually broadens an area of the face that for some (like Gomez) is already the widest point.
How to Apply Concealer, According to a Celebrity Makeup Artist
Learning how to apply concealer is easy when you have a celebrity makeup artist's guidance. Rather than applying concealer directly to your under-eye areas, Murdick suggests applying to a brush and blending as you go to better build to the level of coverage that’s ideal for you.
Focus on the area under your eye, with a minimalistic touch on the outer corners. "Just use the amount you actually need,” says Murdick, echoing one of our favorite eco-friendly mantras and adding that, should you truly need additional coverage, a color corrector can help.
