St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, which means there’s no better time than now to enjoy a vegan shamrock shake made with planet-friendly ingredients.
While McDonald’s originally made the drink famous (the first one actually dates back to 1967!), it’s really easy to make a vegan shamrock shake at home. The traditional option is made up of McDonald’s vanilla ice cream and an artificial mint syrup.
To recreate the same texture and flavor at home, you’ll need dairy-free vanilla ice cream, your plant-based milk of choice, and peppermint extract. That’s it! While you can opt for a natural green food coloring, we have another trick: use the spinach in your fridge that’s about to go bad. It gives you a pretty color, plus it helps keep food waste out of landfills.
After blending up your ingredients, top your vegan shamrock shake with dairy-free whipped cream and you’re good to go. It’s just like what you’d order at the drive-through… except better. (And if you want another green drink to enjoy today, try our matcha latte recipe, too!)
