What better way to practice some #selfcare than with a sheet mask? They smell good, leave your skin feeling fresh and glowy, and *record scratch* are kind of terrible for the environment. The single-use sheet and plastic packaging might be great for self-care, but not so much for the planet-care.
The good news is you don’t have to write off sheet masks forever. Cocokind, a woman-owned conscious skincare brand, shared a video that explains how to create your own reusable sheet mask from just a few materials. You can use an old t-shirt to create the mask. Then, to create the serum, you simply mix some green tea with your favorite essential oils and essences.
If Self-Care Sunday is your favorite day of the week and you’re looking to make it more eco-friendly, then this hack is a must-try. Continue reading below for Cocokind’s step-by-step reusable sheet mask instructions.
How to Make a Reusable Sheet Mask
You’ve got your candles lit, glass of wine in hand, and now you’re ready for some dazzling bright skin. Cocokind says to take an old cotton t-shirt (or another piece of fabric) and cut out the shape of a sheet mask using your hand as a size guide. Next, it’s time to concoct your formula.
Fill a bowl with hot water and add green tea, which has been shown to soothe and protect skin. To complete the base, add in your favorite serums, essences, or oils. Once you’re satisfied with your blend, fold up the sheet mask and soak it in your unique formula for at least two minutes.
After the face mask is adequately soaked, apply the mask to your face and relax for 5 to 10 minutes. After the time is up, you’ll be able to reveal your happy, hydrated skin.
Preserving Your Mask for Future Use
Now comes the most exciting part. Instead of throwing out your reusable sheet mask, you can give it a second life. First, wash it with the rest of your laundry. (Pro tip: Use fragrance-free detergent that won’t irritate your skin.) To prevent it from ripping during the washing process, either run it in a delicate cycle or wash it in a laundry bag or pillow case.
Once the mask is clean, let it hang dry, then store it away for your next planet-friendly self-care session.
