More and more sustainable products seem to be popping up everywhere, which makes finding eco swaps easier than ever. One swap worthy of everyone's bathroom is none other than the humble safety razor.

Not only do safety razors help you cut back on waste (no more disposable plastic razors here!), but they're also dermatologist-approved. They tend to be more effective and gentle than other options, and the ultra-smooth glide helps cut down on ingrown hairs and razor bumps.

One company that's making waves in the safety razor space is Leaf Shave. With its innovative pivoting head, you get an experience that's almost identical to using a typical razor. Except by shopping eco, you'll save a lot of money (and the planet) in the long run.

What Is Leaf Shave?

Leaf Shave is a small, sustainable business whose mission is to make the swap from plastic razors to all-metal, fully recyclable shaving a breeze. The company packages and ships 100% plastic-free, and actively reduces its carbon emissions by measuring, recording, and offsetting its carbon footprint across the entire organization.

The Good

Leaf Shave is on a mission to replace disposables with reusables. Just this year alone, over 50,000 Leaf Shave users will keep 1.5 million disposable plastic razors out of landfills. If every shaver in America went plastic-free, over three billion disposables would avoid ending up in landfills each year.

The company also makes it easy to recycle. When your blades start to become dull, you can package them up and send them off to recycle in one of their handy blade tins. Our Scouts had the opportunity to test out the safety razor for themselves, and here's what they thought.

What Our Scouts Thought:

Anna Clark: "I have tried both the EcoRoots Safety Razor and the Target Safety Razor, and the Leaf Kit gave me the best shave by far. While the other two razors are great safety razors for those on a budget, the Leaf Razor shaved much smoother and closer because of the pivoting head."

Grace Campbell: "I used to buy cheap plastic razors. Those razors would be amazing for the first shave, then it was a guessing game in the safety and efficiency of the razor. The Leaf Razor provides such a comforting shave. It moves with my body, and I can use 1 to 3 blades as I wish. This is a great feature because I can choose how I want my shave to be, which was never an option with disposable razors. The packaging was also sustainable!"

Eden Hirsch: "I love the pivoting head on the Leaf Razor. It’s also lightweight and really easy to use. I like that it's adjustable depending on how close of a shave you want. Lastly, I love the razor blade tin for used razor blades that you can send back for proper recycling."

Kaitlyn Huska: "I like how close of a shave it gets. I also love that it's eco-friendly and doesn't add to the waste that regular razors do."

Things to Work On

No product is 100% perfect. Here are some helpful suggestions our Scouts had.

What Our Scouts Thought:

Grace Campbell: "A little guidance on how to responsibly dispose of the wax papers for the razors, or the other packaging materials, would be really helpful. I would love something that explains why things can or can't be disposed of."

Eden Hirsch: "The price is a little steep. But after using it, I can tell it will last a long time, so it’s definitely worth it."

Mackenzie Dajani: "I wish the product packaging (which was so chic!) was compostable and not just recyclable."
