Unfortunately, we can’t all be artistic DIY masters like the people we see on Pinterest and TikTok. Luckily, we don’t have to be in order to create this gorgeous hammered flower t-shirt DIY.
Dasha Volokhova, the artist behind the TikTok account @hammerflower, has garnered a large following for her videos where she hammers flowers onto cards. Volokhova recently shared her first attempt at hammering flowers onto a plain white tee, and the results were spectacular.
Along with being a really easy project, this hammered flower t-shirt DIY also promotes upcycling your clothes and making the most of what you already have. Turning that old shirt into an artistic masterpiece keeps it from taking up space in a landfill. Cute and good for the environment? Sign us up!
Because these shirts aren’t being colored with a permanent pigment, they’ll eventually fade in the wash. With that being said, they’re still beautiful and fun to make. (And when they do fade, do the t-shirt DIY again with some new flowers!) Keep reading to learn how to make a hammered flower t-shirt of your own.
Hammered Flower T-Shirt DIY
What You’ll Need:
Plain white t-shirt
Flowers and leaves
1. Fold your t-shirt in half and pin down the area you want your flowers to be in.
2. Place your flowers underneath the fold.
3. Begin hammering the area with the flowers underneath until you begin to see their imprint through the shirt.
4. Gently unfold your shirt and remove the flowers and greenery.
Pro tip: To help with fading, commenters recommend setting the pigments by soaking your shirt in cold water, salt, and vinegar. Add 1/4 cup salt and one cup vinegar to a gallon of water, then add your shirt. After about 24 hours, remove the shirt, rinse it with fresh water, and hang it up to dry.
