We can't help but notice when A-list celebs drop new beauty products, right? It seems like they're all doing it. Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian... the list goes on and on. And this week, Hailey Bieber launched her skincare brand, Rhode, adding herself into the mix.

So, aside from just being a fan and wanting to support your favorite celebrity, how do you know if making a purchase actually aligns with your values or not? Let's dive into Bieber's new buzzy brand to find out how sustainable it is.

To Buy or Not to Buy... That Is the Question

We've all been there, distracted by the pretty packaging and the beautiful celebrities—and we make impulse purchases we don't necessarily need. Because of that, make sure your first step as a conscious consumer is checking your current skincare stash to see if there's anything that's missing or needs to be replaced.

Step two—and here's where Brightly comes in to save the day!—is doing your research on the sustainability of the brand and its products. How does Rhode compare to other options available on the market? Let's dig into its sustainability efforts and find out.

Is Hailey Bieber's Skincare Brand, Rhode, Sustainable?

It's a good sign that Rhode has a designated sustainability landing page. That says there's at least enough awareness from the brand to continue our digging. Many celebrity beauty brands don't make sustainability a focus at all, so it's a step in the right direction.

"We’re working toward being as sustainable as possible, even with our ingredients, so we tried to source everything completely ethically," Bieber told Forbes. "I'm using the cleanest and best ingredients we could possibly find.

As for what that sustainability hub has to say, here's every part broken down—from the ingredients used in the products to the shipping materials.

Ingredients

The product formulas are vegan and Certified Cruelty-Free by both Leaping Bunny and PETA. No fragrances are used and the formulas were developed with the help of dermatologists.

Packaging

Each bottle, tube, and cap is made out of PCR, or post-consumer recycled materials. In addition, Rhode claims its packaging is mostly recyclable.

The product pages include very detailed descriptions of how to properly recycle or trash each component of the product. Unfortunately, there are some pieces that need to go to the landfill, like the pumps.

Alternatively, you can ship your empties back to Rhode for free. The company will do the recycling for you, though what their recycling process looks like is unknown to us.

Shipping Material

Rhode products come in zero-waste Boox boxes. These boxes can be reused up to 12 times, don't include bubble wrap or additional waste, and use recycled paper inserts.

To make sure you're utilizing the Boox box properly, scan the QR code, follow the steps, and then drop it off at a local Boox return location (like FedEx).

Final Thoughts

Rhode by Hailey Bieber seems to be making a lot of good choices and doing more in terms of sustainability than other brands in the same category.

While we wish the product packaging was completely recyclable, reusable, or even compostable, it's important to also consider accessibility. Bieber has made it known that the affordability of her products is important. While we're not seeing drugstore beauty brand prices, you can still get all five products for under $100.

Hopefully, Bieber continues to make sustainability a focus as she improves current offerings and develops new products for the brand.
