This Vegan Chicken Nuggets Recipe Is Harry Styles-Approved
vegan-chicken-nuggets

Harry Styles is many things: a performer, an actor, a style icon, and a vegetarian. The last point was made very clear during a recent show at Madison Square Garden when an impassioned fan threw a chicken nugget onstage, which Styles dodged in more ways than one.

Fortunately, the exchange was captured and shared across social.

“Interesting approach… who threw the chicken nugget?” a bemused Styles asks the crowd, who then encourages him to eat the questionable nugget. “I don’t eat chicken. Sorry. I don’t eat meat,” says Styles, adding that it’s cold (and likely old) before tossing it back into the fray.

Styles is a vocal champion of sustainability (his brand, Pleasing, supports social initiatives and features predominantly vegan, eco-friendly formulas) and his vegetarianism has been documented in the past. But this cheeky reiteration serves as a reminder of the power of celebrity to level up the trendiness of environmentally sound habits—and offers an excuse to try out a more sustainable nugget option.

Danielle Brown of Healthy Girl Kitchen hared a vegan chicken nugget recipe on TikTok that packs all of the appeal of the traditional offering—bite-sized, texture, crunch—utlizing chickpeas instead of poultry.

If you need us, we’ll be blasting Harry’s House and test-driving her recipe before the dreaded chickpea shortage finds us.

Vegan Chicken Nuggets Recipe

Ingredients:

1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed (save the aquafaba for another time!)
1/3 block extra-firm tofu
1/2 cup oat flour
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black petter
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
2 Tbsp non-dairy milk
Breadcrumbs

Instructions:

1. Add chickpeas, tofu, oat flour, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika to a food processor

2. Pulse to combine.

3. Form the chickpea mixture into chicken nuggets, creating the shape you want.

4. Dip the nuggets, one by one, into the dairy-free milk then roll in breadcrumbs.

5. Air-fry at 380°F for 15 minutes.

6. Dip the crispy vegan chicken nuggets in your sauce of choice.
