7 Natural Shampoo Options for Healthy, Voluminous Hair
natural-shampoo

Finding a great natural shampoo isn’t easy. When scanning the options, you’ve likely come across plenty of hard-to-pronounce ingredients that don’t sound “natural” in the slightest. That’s why we’re sharing sustainably-made shampoos you’ll feel good about using during your next shower.

The natural shampoo options below have a few things in common. They’re made with sustainable ingredients, have thoughtful packaging, and don’t contain any of the icky things you don’t want anywhere near your hair. Keep reading for picks that are just as great for your strands as they are for the planet.

7 Natural Shampoo Options for Healthy Hair

1. HiBAR Shampoo Bar

HiBAR’s natural shampoo is cruelty-free and free from sulfates, phthalates, parabens, and silicones. The brand uses plant-based ingredients, the bars are biodegradable, and the packaging is both recyclable and compostable.

There are many shampoo options to choose from, depending on your needs. You’ll find a go-to everyday shampoo bar, as well as options for volume, moisture, and more.

2. Ceremonia Champú de Yucca & Witch Hazel All-in-One Shampoo

Ceremonia is a haircare brand rooted in Latinx heritage that uses clean and safe ingredients from nature. All of the vegan and cruelty-free products are bottled in New York. The bottles are made from 30% to 100% post-consumer-recycled PET material and are 100% recyclable.

The active ingredients are sourced from Central and South American countries, and all ingredients have been deemed safe for the environment and waterways.

3. Superzero Shampoo Bar

Superzero makes natural shampoo bars that are vegan, 100% plastic-free, and certified microplastic-free. There’s options for every hair type—curly, fine, aging, oily, blonde, coily, and more.

The bars are also made from plant-derived ingredients and are free from parabens, phthalates, and sulfates. In addition, the brand partners with 1% for the Planet and says every bar sold “supports the fight against plastic pollution and for ocean conservation.”

4. True Botanicals Nourishing Shampoo

True Botanicals’ haircare is vegan, cruelty-free, non-toxic, and is free from SLES, SLS, harsh surfactants, and synthetic fragrances.

Instead of using plastic, the brand opts for glass and aluminum bottles. And the natural shampoo is packed with antioxidants and is hypoallergenic, hydrating, and formulated for all hair types.

5. Ethique Shampoo Bar

Each of Ethique’s shampoo bars is the equivalent of three bottles of liquid shampoo. The brand is 100% plastic-free, and as of March 2021, it became climate positive, offsetting 120% of its carbon emissions.

As far as its ingredients, everything is cruelty-free and plant-based, sustainably produced and biodegradable, and free from palm oil and palm oil derivatives. The shampoo bars are free from parabens, synthetic fragrances, and more.

6. Plaine Products Shampoo

Plaine Products’ natural shampoo is vegan, cruelty-free, non-GMO, biodegradable, and zero-waste, as the aluminum bottles are reusable and refillable.

The formula—which is free from palm oil, sulfates, and silicones—comes in three options: unscented, rosemary mint vanilla, and citrus lavender. The brand is also a member of 1% for the Planet and is a Certified B Corporation and Leaping Bunny certified.

7. Everist Shampoo Concentrate

Our Scouts are big fans of Everist—a brand that stands out for its biodegradable ingredients and thoughtful packaging. What’s unique about this natural shampoo is that the bottle is one-third of the size of a typical shampoo bottle.

The concentrate comes in a pure aluminum tube, and all you need to do to activate it is squeeze some into your hand and rub it together in your hands. Lather it in your hair, rinse, and you’re done.
