ButcherBox is a Flexible Subscription Service for a Variety of Ethically-Sourced Meats

Newsflash: Being sustainable does NOT mean altering your diet to exclude meat entirely! Usually, the idea of cutting out meat altogether can be so daunting that it stops us from exploring eco-friendly recipes and swaps. You can keep eating meat and still live a sustainable lifestyle.

If you consider yourself a meat-lover, look into where your meat comes from. Look for grass-fed beef, antibiotic-free pork, free-range organic chicken, and wild-caught seafood.

Another option to consider is subscribing to ButcherBox, a company that finds farmers with ethical practices for you. ButcherBox has many great recipes to use with the meat cuts you receive as well. With ButcherBox, you can feel confident that you’re supporting a meat option with minimal emissions and the highest animal ethics in mind.

ButcherBox takes the guessing game out out of one of the most important things in our lives: what we eat. Whether its curated or custom boxes are the fit you choose, ButcherBox cares about the planet and good food just as much as you do. Just choose your delivery and meat preferences, and you’re good to go!

Here at Brightly, we set up our scouts who love meat just as much as they love fighting for our planet with a free box from ButcherBox. Spoiler: they loved it!

(Disclaimer: We did not pay any of our Scouts to review these products, but they did receive the products for free. Join Brightly’s Scouts program if you want a chance to participate in the next product drop!)

(BTW: With ButcherBox, you get $10 off your first box and a pack of bacon for free with every box to start your mornings feeling strong with a clean conscience).

   Products I Tried:

Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts, Halibut, Salmon Burgers, Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, Beef Brisket, Filet Mignon & Breakfast Sausage

   Star Rating: ★★★★★

"The quality of the meat is amazing and it’s a great way to lean away from the unsustainable meats being sold at the grocery store. The cuts of meat and fish are so high quality and they come frozen, so there’s no need to worry about the food going bad before you have the chance to use it. Also, the salmon burgers were totally pre-made and deliciously seasoned. All I had to do was throw them on the pan. I also love that ButcherBox has a part of their site dedicated to recipes. I’ve never cooked a filet mignon before and I know that there’s a good recipe on their site to use when I’m ready to cook."

"I have tried many different meal prep kits and always find that it's too much or not enough food, and the meat cuts are sub-par at best. The butcher box gives the perfect amount for my Fiance and I’s budget friendly lifestyle. They have the most delicious, high-quality, organic meat I have ever consumed at home. The butcher box is also significantly more cost effective than the local butcher. The butcher box is the leader in this space and it's not even close."

"We usually use meat from a local butcher or my boyfriend’s farm (beef), and I felt the quality was the exact same as something I would get locally! Packaging & transportation was definitely effective as the meat was still frozen solid by the time it arrived at my apartment! I also liked that the packaging was 100% recyclable, including the insulation. Regarding the actual product, I liked the heartiness of the meat. Additionally, the variety & quality of the cuts was impressive."

"The Butcher Box website has very helpful information about their animals, sourcing and fair labor practices. I am trying to cut down on my meat consumption. I like how Butcher Box is very sustainable and friendly to their animals. From catching fish from Alaska to letting their chickens roam free, I am super glad that Butcher Box exists!"

   Products I Tried:

"My favorite part about this box was learning that there are ethical and sustainable ways to consume meat. I was in the grocery store shopping for items to accompany the Butcher Box items and went to grab a container of tofu out of habit. But I stopped and realized I had no idea where this tofu came from; who produced it, how far it traveled, where the plastic was manufactured, if the supply chain was ethical or not. I thought about how transparent Butcher Box is about where they source their meat, how it’s raised, and who does the raising, packaging, and shipping. After using Butcher Box I now ask those questions about the supply chain and what the “footprint” of my food might be."
